$500 Contest Post: Online Profiles That Offer Back Links

428
vote

Winner Update: Holger from Wakefiles.com won this contest. We had to spend some time testing to see if many of the social media site submitted were valid and actually provided a back link from a profile or similar page. One of my link builders confirmed this today, so congradulations Holger on making a quick $500! I'll repost the full list after they are all confirmed.

Contest Post: Let's make this into a contest. Whoever adds the most social media and/or online profile-type sites other than the ones already listed in this post wins $500 in cash.

Rules - Sites submitted must offer back links (anchor text with URL or URL link only). The contest ends May 15th at 5pm EST. You can come back as many times as you wish and add more sites in a different comment post (of course using the same username/email in your comments so we can tally up your total links submitted over the next two weeks). Good luck!

Building Links Through Social Profiles

One of the fastest ways to build backlinks and cast your net wider on the Internet is through social media profile building. However, not all profile sites are created equally in terms of SEO value. Some profiles don’t allow any links back to your site while others offer URL links and anchor text.

I’ve done some digging into a the profiles of a few top rated social sites to find which ones offered links in the public profile:

Social Profile Back Links

A few sites like Scribd and Fast Pitch Networking offer no live links at all. This is not to say that they are not valuable as networking tools, only that they won’t supply a backlink to your site.

Here’s a link list to all of the social sites above:

  1. Fast Company (http://www.fastcompany.com/user/register)
  2. Flickr (http://www.flickr.com)
  3. Naymz ($4.99/month) (http://www.naymz.com)
  4. StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com)
  5. Digg (http://www.digg.com)
  6. Linked In (http://www.linkedin.com)
  7. Twitter (http://www.twitter.com)
  8. Answers.com (http://www.answers.com)
  9. FaceBook (http://www.facebook.com)
  10. eZine Articles (http://www.ezinearticles.com)
  11. Insider Pages (http://www.insiderpages.com)
  12. HubPages (http://www.hubpages.com)
  13. Slideshare (http://www.slideshare.net)
  14. Kiva (http://www.kiva.com)
  15. My Blog Log (http://www.mybloglog.com)
  16. Viddler (video) (http://www.viddler.com)
  17. Go Articles (http://www.goarticles.com)
  18. You Tube (http://www.youtube.com)
Have Any Profile Sites to Add to the List?

There are plenty more sites online to build profiles and back links. Do you know of any to add to the list that offer a link back? Whoever adds the most within the comments wins $500 (see top of post for more details).

Nofollow's uses

Hi Brian,
I agree on one hand about nofollow being a consideration, but have seen inklings of benefits of rankings with Yahoo, MSN, and Google. Lots of experiments have been done to help conclude whether or not links using nofollow have any value.

Some can be found here:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=do+nofol...

But you're right, adding that column would make a bit of difference. ;-)

Hi Brian, yes only one mention of each social site

Since someone could cherry pick from any submitted social media lists, then each site can only be mentioned once and it's credited to the individual who posts it first.

Confirmation of back links in social sites

Hi holger,
It seems that some of your submissions may not allow a profile type of link when signing up. We'll need to check the ones you submitted to make sure that each does allow a back link.

Please keep the social site list submissions to sites that only allow back links or profile links.

Hi. I focused on Social

Hi. I focused on Social Media Sites where you can submit a Backlink in your profile, so most of the Sites provide a backlink in the users profile.
You are right, there some sites in the long list wich do not provide a backlink from the profile but where you are able to have backlinks in other places or/and list them in the user profile. No problem, check wich sites match your contest criteria.

OK. Here are some more sites where you have 100% a backlink from profile and the links are 100% NOT nofollow:

fototalk.com
fotocommunity.com
aniboom.com
collegehumor.com
crackle.com
dailymotion.com
gofish.com
jibjab.com
ourmedia.org
sharkle.com
travelistic.com
tausendreporter.stern.de
newstube.de

Cool contest - congrats to

Cool contest - congrats to the winner!

Congrats to the winner

This sounded like a fun contest, too bad I missed it. I do have one more to offer since this is the most extensive and currently active list of social media sites I have stumbled across.

www.livewirenews.net is another which provides backlinks for submitted blog posts & stories, along with a link in your profile. Bookmarked this page for future reference, thanks!

Don't forget about Tumblr!

Tumblr is one of the best for this topic! You can completely customize the HTML/CSS of your Tumblr page, which allows for as many backlinks, H1 tags, bolding, etc as you like! AND it comes from the tumblr.com domain!
See an example here: alexweber.tumblr.com

RE: "I'll repost the full list after they are all confirmed."

Hey,

Thanks for this feature, I think it's a great resource. Will the full list still be posted?

GR8network.co.uk

As a Social networking site http://gr8network.co.uk has all the links and tools you should need for promoting almost anything anything.

I wish I had seen this contest earlier

I can't believe you offered 500 bucks for this info.... If I had only known LOL. anyways.... its a good list for anyone trying to build more links for clients. Also try some of those companies located out of India. Somebody from our team spoke to a few of these guys, and they seem to have good track records. I think for as low as 5 dollars per link, you can get permanent links if you order in bulk. They also guarantee page rank, even though I don't know what happens after all of these PR updates.

twitter is now nofollow

Too bad more and more of these sites are adding nofollow tags, such as Twitter.

Just noticed the post update

I am lokking regular on socialseo.com to see if there is a new interesting post, but didnt noticed the update of this thread.

Just want to say thanks to Brian and socialseo.com for this nice idea of contest and the decent cashprice :)

I hope some of the posted links will help the blog readers increase there link popularity. Best Regards.

The nofollowlist also has a

The nofollowlist also has a whitelist now...but I guess that's not what you need.

If your Drupal site is adding "nofollow" to links then you should look for it in the input formats section: http://example.com/admin/settings/filters/

One of those probably has an option enabled which is setting the nofollow. If it's not that...please include a link to your site and and describe which of the links on the page is nofollow that you wish was dofollow and I'll try to help.
